Rachel Hartman

Obituary of Rachel Frances Hartman

Rachel Frances Lazarus Hartman

Born Sept. 21, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas.

Accepted Christ as her personal Savior at age of seven. So, vivid and vital was this experience that it became the pivotal point for all other experiences of her life.

Married Kenneth Charles Hartman in Feb. 5, 1950.

Preceded in death by Kenneth, her sons Kenneth Kyle and Kevin, and brother Lee Lazarus.

Survived by her children Sandra Thompson, David (Annette), Bambi daughter-in -law, and Randall (Audrey). Twenty-two grandkids by birth, marriage or love adopted. Plus, sixteen great grandkids. As Mother, she and Kenneth purchased an old school bus and converted it to travel with the five children. That was how they travelled from Kansas to Tucson, Az. The stories from any of the trips in the bus were recounted during any family gatherings. As Wife, she taught by example from her life.

Rachel held many jobs and wore many hats, yet considered her position as wife and mother her highest calling.

By teaching Bible and English as a second language, many doors of opportunity were opened.

Teaching fulfilled her passion to introduce others to her Savior, Jesus Christ and assist them on their Christian journey. This she accomplished by teaching in Del Norte Baptist church 4 &5s class Sunday school, Casas Adobes Christian School, as Director of Women’s and Children’s Ministry at Del Norte, Director of Aunt Bert’s Learning Center, Director of Papago Christian Academy in Sells, AZ, Director of Love & Care Christian Preschool, Alhambra CA, Teacher of Women’s Bible study for college, new married, and college age at the local Chinese church. Many of her students from thirty years ago still kept in touch.

Teaching Bible and English as a second Language opened many doors and opportunities to share the love of Christ to those in Taiwan, China and Kenya. “Relationships made on those ventures are both lasting and fulfilling, how blessed I have been,” said Rachel, “I’ll see them in heaven.”
