Obituary of Michele Rae Baseman Blevins

Obituary Michele Rae Baseman Blevins passed away shortly before midnight on February 24, 2019 after a brief stay at the Peppi House Hospice on the Tucson Medical Center campus in Tucson Arizona. This followed several months of unsuccessful treatment to stop an aggressive cancer. Michele was born in Detroit Michigan on September 24, 1967. Her mother, Jarrie Baseman Tent and her father, James Baseman both predeceased her. Michele leaves a son, James Baseman Blevins of Tucson, aunts Barbara Brehmer of Clinton, Michigan, and Mary Warren of Stockbridge, Michigan, stepmother Margo Macartney of Bisbee, Arizona, Robbie and Melissa Ceballos, and their children, whom she helped raise and considered her family. She also leaves in-laws, David and Lauren Blevins of Tucson, Donna and Joe Carpentier of Tucson, ex-husband Richard (Red) Blevins, and close friend Mare Ceballos and her family. She leaves, as well, many cousins and friends in Arizona, Michigan and Georgia. Michele's passing brought an end to a unique life filled with varied experiences. She spent much of her childhood living in a California intentional community, Synanon, where she lived a lifestyle similar to children growing up on kibbutz in Israel. Part of that time was spent on a ranch in Marin County, California where she rode horses in the hills, learned to care for them, learned animal husbandry, and camped and hiked in the hills of Marin County with the children she grew up with. She lived in Santa Monica, California where she lived on the beach and spent sunny days at the ocean there. She was exposed to a wide range of adults and other children, and experienced apprentice positions as a child in that community which served later in her life to create the many faceted person she became. She leaves too many brothers and sisters from Synanon to name individually. When she was fourteen years old, Michele and her mother moved to Wayne Michigan where her mother had grown up, and Michele connected with her grandmother, aunts and cousins and graduated from Wayne High School. She moved to Tucson in 1987 and for a time worked for Amity Foundation. She married Red Blevins and her son James was born in 1992. She began working for George Stevenson and Dan Lundwall at Structural Concepts, an engineering firm, where she made herself invaluable and remained for over twenty years. In 2015 she moved to Georgia to live near her aunt Barbara, established an LLC Bookkeeping business, bringing remarkable organizational skills to the work she performed there primarily for one large company. When she moved back to Tucson in 2017, she continued performing work for the same company until she was too ill to work in September, 2018. During her short life, Michele developed a love of family. Her relationships with her employers and their families demonstrated that. She was a person who spoke no ill of other people and lived a life of genuine compassion towards others, exemplifying the conduct preached by all religions. She was trustworthy, trusting, honest and looked for the best in other people. She was loved by everyone whose lives she touched and was the perfect example of love. She made the world a better place, and will be missed by all who were privileged to know her.
