Obituary of Rebekah Hoppel Salcedo

Obituary Rebekah passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the young age of 36. She leaves behind her beloved spouse, Edgar; dogs, Nishka and Marcel; snake, Georgette; ngewt, Gargemelle and tortoise, Tubac along with many friends and colleagues in Tucson, Arizona. In Maryland, are her parents, Jennifer and Steven Hoppel; brothers David and Josh; her grandma, sister-in-law, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. While she hated cooking and cleaning, she loved to reading, traveling and helping others. Rebekah and Edgar traveled the world together: Mexico, Madagascar, India and Costa Rica. She enjoyed outdoor adventures with her friends and dogs. She volunteered for Junior League of Tucson, American Association of University Women and Big Brothers/Big Sisters among many others. Education was also very important to Rebekah. She completed her BA at Marymount University, her MA at Capella University and her PhD at University of Arizona. She moved to Tucson for a job at the University of Arizona. In less than 10 years, she worked her way to the top to become the Executive Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships. She has walls full of awards including being one of Tucson’s 40 under 40. Rebekah always wanted to help as many people as possible. Per her request, all of her organs have been donated to needy individuals. On March 8, 2019 there will be a celebration of her life at the University of Arizona (time and location TBD). A scholarship in Rebekah’s memory is also being created. She led a very active and full life! She was loved and admired by many! She will be greatly missed but her contributions to society will remain. **Please join the University of Arizona community to celebrate the life of Rebekah Hoppel Salcedo, Ph. D., our Executive Director of Scholarships & Financial Aid. Rebekah was a fierce advocate for students and an innovative leader in financial aid. She was a constant friend to us all and a mentor to many. We will celebrate the many contributions and impact she's had on or UA family. We hope you can join us!
