Luis Echerivel

Obituary of Luis Varela Echerivel

Luis went to be with our Lord after a brief illness following a cancer diagnosis.

Luis was born in Janos, Chihuahua, Mexico and emigrated to the United States at the age of 4. Luis attended Sunnyside High School where he participated in wrestling and cross country running. Luis served his country in the U.S. Navy and married his high school sweetheart upon his return. He had a successful dedicated career of 35 years at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Luis was an avid hunter, loved his horses but his true passion was breeding and fighting prime roosters. He was a man of few words. He lived his life on his terms with no regrets.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful friend, and he will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rosemary Verduzco Echerivel, as well as his sons, Luis (Amanda), Augusto (Melissa), Marcos, and grandchildren, Crystal, Augusto, Liliana, Alonso, Ariana, Marcos, and Yazmin. He is also survived by his father, Augusto P. Echerivel and his brother Santiago Varela (Norma), and sisters Rose Rule (Wayne), Zulema Echerivel (Ramon Felix), Teresa Prieto (Arturo), Petra Echerivel (Donna). Preceded in death by his mother, Petra V. Echerivel, sister Irene Burgess, nephew James A. Varela, nieces Zulema Rosa Felix and Renee Burgess Odom.
